Abstract

Triathlon is characterized by being a multiple sport, composed of three modalities: swimming, cycling and running that occur in that order and in sequence. Each modality is influenced by the one that precedes it, especially running, which occurs after the lower limbs suffer cycling fatigue. Objective: The objective of this review was to evaluate the effect of fatigue promoted by cycling on running performance in an Olympic triathlon. Method: the search was carried out in the databases: Scielo, Pubmed and Google Scholar. (keywords: running; triathlon; cycling; performance). Result: the running economy is influenced by cycling, and the factors that most influence are: cadence, low level of conditioning, depletion of energy substrates, little experience in triathlon and dehydration.
