An essay: Nurse and informal caregiver, the intersubjectivity of care

Abstract

I used to bathe my mother – she always liked that – and I took care of her with a lot of tenderness. She died in my arms while I was giving her a bath. And after she passed away, I went to the doctor and told him I was very nervous and had a stomachache because I had been caring for my mother with Alzheimer's for seven years. He ran some tests and said, "This isn't nerves; it's an ulcer due to lack of nutrition. Fortunately, your mother passed away now because if she had held on a little longer, she might have taken you with her."
