Abstract

This study analyses the relationship between novelty and student presence within the framework of experiential learning in higher education. A quantitative approach was adopted, with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational design. The sample consisted of 50 students enrolled in the Business Management and Organizational Theories course in an online higher education program. Data were collected using an adaptation of the Experiencing Scale, administered on a five-point Likert scale, and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) with ADANCO software. The results show a positive and statistically significant relationship between novelty and student presence (β = 0.9248; p < .001), with high explanatory power (R² = 0.8553). These findings indicate that experiences perceived as novel are associated with higher levels of attention, concentration, and cognitive involvement during learning. It is concluded that the intentional design of innovative educational experiences, such as company visits, can strengthen the connection between theory and practice and foster meaningful learning in online higher education

Karen Stefany Sandoval - Mora, Private Technical University of Loja, Ecuador

She holds a degree in Accounting and Auditing and is a Certified Public Accountant from the National University of Loja (UNL); an Economics degree from the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL); a Master's degree in Tax Administration from the Institute of Higher National Studies (IAEN); and a Master's degree in Auditing, specializing in Financial Fraud Risk Management and Forensic Auditing, from the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL). She is a Certified International Anti-Fraud Expert (CIE-AF®️).

She has experience in university teaching, research, and community outreach, developing academic activities in the areas of Accounting, Taxation, and Auditing.

She is the author and co-author of several scientific articles and research projects in the areas of accounting, auditing, taxation, internal control, fraud prevention, and higher education. She also has professional experience in providing accounting, tax, and financial consulting to individuals and legal entities, as well as in the management and evaluation of control processes, regulatory compliance, and risk management.

 

Laura Magali Chamba-Rueda, Private Technical University of Loja, Ecuador

Laura Magali Chamba Rueda is an Ecuadorian professional passionate about education, management, and innovation, with a career that seamlessly integrates academia, research, and engagement with the productive sector.

With a PhD in Administration, a Master's degree in Business Management, and a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, she has built a career characterized by a commitment to excellence, academic leadership, and continuous learning aimed at generating real impact. 

For over fifteen years, she has been a university professor at the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, where she currently serves as Director of the Negotiation and Sales program. 

Throughout her career, she has held significant academic management responsibilities, including directing the Master's programs in Business Management and Quality Management, leading planning processes, ensuring quality, supporting graduate students, and strengthening academic relevance to the demands of the business environment.

 

María Alejandra Luzuriaga Vasquez, Private Technical University of Loja, Ecuador

She holds a degree in Marketing Engineering from the International University of Ecuador (UIDE) and a Master of Science in Marketing from Carlos III University of Madrid, specializing in services marketing. She currently works as a professor and researcher at the Private Technical University of Loja (UTPL), in the area of ​​Communication and Strategic Marketing.

She has professional experience in strategic communication, digital marketing, public relations, and institutional communication management, having held management and advisory positions in public and academic organizations.

She is the author and co-author of scientific articles, book chapters, and research projects related to communication, marketing, and digital consumer behavior.
